Reuniting with an Old Friend

Selin has lived in Ankara for three years, but she has never felt completely at home there. Last Tuesday, something unexpected changed that feeling.

She was waiting for a bus near Kızılay when a woman called her name. Selin turned around and couldn't believe her eyes. It was Gül, her best friend from primary school, whom she hadn't seen since they were twelve years old.

"I have thought about you so many times over the years," Gül said, hugging her tightly. "I have always wondered what happened to you."

The two friends sat down at a nearby café and talked for hours. Selin learned that Gül had studied medicine and had worked as a doctor in Izmir for five years before moving to Ankara. "I have never stopped thinking about our old school," Gül said with a smile.

Selin told Gül about her own journey. She had worked in three different cities and had changed careers twice. "Life has taken us in different directions," Selin said, "but somehow we have ended up in the same city again."

They discovered that they had lived only two streets apart for the last two years, without ever meeting. "We have probably passed each other many times without knowing it," Gül laughed.

Before saying goodbye, they exchanged phone numbers and promised to meet again soon. "I have already decided," Selin said. "This time, I am not going to lose touch with you."

Since that day, Selin and Gül have met every weekend. Selin now feels that Ankara has become a real home, not because of the city itself, but because of the old friendship she has found again.
