Starting a Small Business

Nur has worked as an accountant for five years, but she has never felt truly happy in an office. Every evening after work, she makes ceramic bowls and cups in her small home studio.

Last month, Nur made a difficult decision. If she doesn't try to open her own workshop now, she will regret it for the rest of her life. She has saved some money, and her family supports her plan completely.

"If I open a small shop in the old part of Konya, tourists will visit it easily," Nur explains to her brother, who helps her with the business plan. "If the location is good, more people will discover my work."

Finding the right place takes several weeks. If the rent is too high, Nur won't be able to afford the first few months. Finally, she finds a small shop near the Mevlana Museum, where many visitors walk every day.

Nur's brother warns her about the risks. "If sales are slow at first, you will need patience," he says. Nur understands this well. She knows that if she works hard and creates unique designs, customers will eventually come back.

On opening day, Nur feels nervous but excited. If the first customers like her ceramics, she believes word will spread quickly around the neighborhood. By the end of the first week, several tourists have already bought her bowls as gifts.

Nur still works at the accounting office part-time, just to be safe. But she knows that if her workshop continues to grow, she will leave her old job completely within a year. For the first time in years, Nur feels that she is building something truly her own.
