Twenty years ago, Selim had been one of the most young violinists at the İzmir State Conservatory. His teachers had predicted a brilliant career for him, and he had been offered a to study in Vienna after graduation. However, everything changed when his father became seriously ill, and Selim had to give up music to help run the family's small shop instead.

For two decades, the violin had remained in its case, untouched, gathering dust on top of a wardrobe. Selim had told himself countless times that he would pick it up again someday, but life kept getting in the way, and eventually, he stopped believing that day would ever come.

Last spring, Selim received an unexpected phone call from Meltem, a former classmate who was now the director of a regional orchestra. She explained that the orchestra was putting together a special concert to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, and several former conservatory students had been invited to perform a piece together, just once, for old times' sake.

At first, Selim refused immediately. He told Meltem that he hadn't touched his violin in twenty years and that his hands would probably no longer remember how to play. She replied that if he simply came to one rehearsal, he could decide afterward whether to continue, and there would be no pressure at all.

, Selim agreed, mostly because he didn't want to disappoint an old friend. That evening, he took the violin down from the wardrobe for the first time in years. When he opened the case, he found a folded note that had been placed there by his late father, written shortly before he had passed away.

The note said that his father had always felt guilty for asking Selim to give up music, and that if things had been different, he would have insisted Selim continue his studies instead of taking over the shop. Selim had never known this note existed, and reading it for the first time left him in tears.

He decided to attend the rehearsal the following week. His fingers felt and unfamiliar on the strings at first, and several notes came out wrong during the first few minutes. However, as the rehearsal continued, something inside him seemed to wake up, as if the years hadn't actually erased what had once been to him.

Meltem later told a local newspaper that watching Selim play again had been one of the most moments of her career. She was quoted as saying that talent like his should never have been allowed to disappear, and that she was to help him find his way back to music, even in a small way.

Over the following months, Selim began practicing every evening after closing his shop. If he had been asked years earlier whether he would ever perform publicly again, he would have said it was impossible. Yet here he was, preparing for the anniversary concert with a mixture of fear and quiet excitement he hadn't felt in decades.

On the night of the performance, Selim stood on stage, violin in hand, more nervous than he had ever been as a young student. As the music began, he closed his eyes and allowed himself to be carried by the melody, feeling, for the first time in twenty years, that he was exactly where he was meant to be.

After the concert, Selim was approached by a music school director who had been in the . She told him that the school was looking for an experienced violin teacher for their evening classes, and she wondered whether he would be interested. Selim, still catching his breath from the performance, said that he would need to think about it, but for the first time in years, he genuinely believed the answer would be yes.
