A Seat on the Bus

Otobüste Bir Yer

Kalabalık bir otobüste yorgun genç Can, tek boş koltuğa oturur.

Can is a young man. He is nineteen years old. Today is a long, day. He works all morning and studies all afternoon. Now it is evening, and he is going home on the bus. He is very tired. His feet hurt, and his eyes are heavy. He only wants to sit down and rest.

The bus is very . There are many people standing. Can looks around. He sees one seat at the back of the bus. He is lucky! He walks to the seat and sits down. "Finally," he thinks. "I can rest now." He closes his eyes. The seat feels wonderful after a long day.

At the next stop, the bus doors open. An old woman gets on. She is two heavy bags full of shopping. She is tired and slow. The bus is full, and there are no empty seats. The old woman stands near the door. She holds the bar with one hand. The bus moves, and she almost falls.

Can sees the old woman. He is still very tired. A small voice in his head says, "Stay in your seat. You work hard all day. You need to rest. Somebody else can help her." For a moment, Can does not move. He really wants to keep his seat.

But then Can looks at the old woman again. She is struggling with her heavy bags. She looks like his own grandmother. He thinks about his grandmother. "If my grandmother is on a crowded bus," he thinks, "I want somebody to help her too." He makes a . His tiredness is not more important than her comfort.

Can stands up. He walks to the old woman. "Teyze," he says , "please, take my seat. Come and sit down." The old woman looks at him with surprise. "Oh, thank you, young man," she says. "But you look tired too." Can smiles. "I am okay, teyze. Please, sit. Rest your feet."

The old woman sits down slowly. "Thank you so much," she says. "You are a good young man. Your parents must be proud of you." Can helps her with her heavy bags too. He holds them while she gets comfortable. The old woman is . Her tired face now has a warm smile.

Something interesting happens next. A few other people on the bus see Can's kind action. A young girl stands up and her seat to another old man. A businessman helps a mother with her baby. Can's small action kindness through the whole bus. People start to smile at each other.

Can stands for the rest of his journey. His feet still hurt, but he does not mind anymore. He feels good inside. When the old woman gets off the bus, she waves to him. "Thank you again, my son. May God bless you," she says. Can waves back. His tiredness is gone. His heart is light and happy.

That evening, Can learns a simple truth. Kindness is not about having energy or time. It is about caring for other people. One small action — giving up a seat — makes an old woman's day better, and it makes a whole bus kinder. "Be kind," Can thinks. "You never know how much it means to someone."
