The Retired Teacher's Last Class

Mrs. Nur has taught fourth grade at the same primary school in Konya for thirty-five years. Tomorrow will be her last day before retirement, and today, she is teaching her final regular class.

Bayan Nur, Konya'daki aynı ilkokulda otuz beş yıldır dördüncü sınıf okutuyor. Yarın emeklilikten önceki son günü olacak ve bugün son normal dersini işliyor.

She used to walk into the classroom every morning with the same energy, no matter how tired she felt. This morning, however, she has noticed that her hands are shaking slightly as she prepares her lesson.

Her students don't know yet that this is her last class. If they knew, she thinks, they would probably want to celebrate instead of studying, and she wants one more ordinary day with them.

She has taught thousands of children over the years, and many of them have grown up to become doctors, engineers, and even teachers themselves. She often says that teaching has given her more than she ever gave back.

During the lesson, one student, Emir, notices something unusual. "Teacher, why do you keep looking at the clock?" he asks curiously. Mrs. Nur smiles and says she is simply enjoying every minute today.

At the end of the class, the principal walks in with the entire school staff and a large bouquet of flowers. The students immediately understand what is happening and start clapping loudly.

Mrs. Nur has never cried in front of her students before, but today, she cannot hold back her tears. She tells them that if they work hard and stay curious, they will succeed in whatever they choose to do.

As she walks out of the classroom for the last time, carrying the flowers and a class card signed by every student, Mrs. Nur feels both sad and proud. Thirty-five years, she realizes, have passed like a single, wonderful day.
